With launch about five weeks away, the rumor mill is running at full speed. Every screenshot, every "insider" post and every out-of-context clip gets shared thousands of times within hours.
Some of it is worth your attention. A lot of it is not. The trick is knowing which claims have a real source behind them and which ones fall apart the moment you ask where they came from.
Here are five rumors that do not hold up right now, plus what is actually confirmed. Where something is speculation, we say so. For the bigger picture, our GTA 6 fake leak spotting guide is a good companion read.
1. "GTA 6 is getting delayed to 2027"
This one returns every few weeks. The claim is always the same: a vague source says Rockstar is quietly pushing the date again.
The confirmed picture is different. Take-Two told investors on its February 2026 earnings call that the game was on track for November 19, 2026, and the date has stayed the same since. Nothing from Rockstar or Take-Two has contradicted it.
Could a delay ever happen? Of course, it is a big project and no one outside the studio can promise anything. But right now the 2027 talk is social media speculation with no named source. We cover the history in our delay explainer.
2. "The install size is 676.7GB"
A screenshot that looked like an Xbox store page claimed the game would need roughly 676.7GB of storage. It spread quickly because the number is shocking enough to feel like a leak.
Rockstar publicly shot it down and said the image was fake. That matters, because Rockstar rarely comments on rumors at all. When it does step in, it usually means a claim was spreading far enough to cause real confusion.
Real storage requirements will appear on the official store pages. Until then, treat any specific gigabyte figure as unverified. If you are planning your drive space, our SSD storage breakdown explains what is reasonable to expect.
3. "Every gameplay leak is real, because Rockstar stayed silent"
Leaker accounts, including one called Cyberleek, have posted material they claim shows gameplay. Rockstar has not commented on those leaks.
Here is the catch: silence is not confirmation. Studios often ignore leaks for legal or strategic reasons, and a lack of denial tells you nothing about authenticity. Fake and edited clips also circulate alongside genuine ones.
A sensible rule: trust what Rockstar has shown in its own trailers on the Rockstar Newswire, and treat everything else as a rumor until it is corroborated by more than one credible outlet. Our gameplay reveal recap covers the official footage.
4. "A PC version launches on day one"
Plenty of posts claim a simultaneous PC release. The facts are simpler. The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a PC version has not been announced.
That does not prove PC is never coming. Rockstar's past games, including GTA 5, arrived on PC later than consoles, so a gap would match history. But that is us reading a pattern, not a confirmed plan.
If someone shows you a PC "pre-order page," check the domain carefully. Fake storefronts are a common scam. We dig into this in our PC release date piece.
5. "Prices will jump at launch"
You will see claims that the Standard Edition will cost far more than announced, or that a hidden fee is coming. The prices Rockstar has published are $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, and the pre-order bonus is the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Those are the numbers to rely on. Be wary of resellers that list higher prices or "guaranteed early access" bundles. Buy only from the official PlayStation Store or Xbox Store, and see our price breakdown for the edition differences.
The quick filter to use before you share anything
Ask three questions. Who is the original source? Is there a link to Rockstar, Take-Two, PlayStation or Xbox? Did more than one reliable outlet verify it?
If you cannot answer yes to at least two, hold off on reposting. It takes a few seconds and keeps the conversation cleaner for everyone.
The next few weeks will bring genuine news, from preload details to reviews. Until then, the confirmed facts are short: November 19, 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, $79.99 and $99.99. Everything else deserves a raised eyebrow.
