Sony's State of Play is minutes away, and GTA 6 is the name PlayStation still will not say
PlayStation's September 3 State of Play is about to go live, and the GTA 6 crowd is already treating it like a Rockstar event. Sony's own briefing does not mention Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games, or Take-Two. The officially named closer is Final Fantasy VII Revelation. That gap is the whole story.
The broadcast starts Thursday, September 3 at 6:00am PT / 9:00am ET / 2:00pm BST / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST, which is 6:30pm IST. Watch it on the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels. Sony is running two shows back to back for the first time: a standard State of Play, then State of Play Japan hosted by Yuki Kaji.

What Sony actually confirmed for September 3
The first hour-style State of Play is billed as updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners. The only title Sony named in the announcement is Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which closes the English-language show with an extended look at the world. Immediately after that, State of Play Japan shifts to studios in Japan and Asia, with new gameplay and announcements, Japanese audio, and English subtitles.
Sony did not publish a full game list. Insider Gaming and other preview roundups have floated Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a rumor, not a listing. Treat that as speculation dated September 2026. If Intergalactic shows up, it will be a PlayStation Studios beat, not a Rockstar one.
How to watch, in one line: PlayStation YouTube, PlayStation Twitch, English first, Japanese second. Sony also warned that licensed music can break co-streams and VOD archives, so recap channels may have to cut audio after the fact.
The GTA 6 question Sony already answered by silence
Grand Theft Auto VI is still locked to Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. That date comes from Rockstar's own Newswire post of November 6, 2025, not from Sony. Pre-orders are already live. Rockstar already dropped An Extended Look on August 27, 2026. The marketing machine is running on Rockstar's calendar, not PlayStation's showcase calendar.
Sony's September 3 post does not name GTA 6. The State of Play FAQ on PlayStation.com does not name GTA 6. There is no Rockstar logo on the event art. A GTA 6 trailer, gameplay drop, or PS5 bundle tease at this show would be the biggest PlayStation headline of the year. Sony would have used that name to pull viewers. It did not.
The same pattern already played out on June 2, 2026. That State of Play also had no GTA 6 trailer, no logo, and no hardware bundle. Coverage after the stream, including Kotaku's write-up, treated November 19 as the date every other publisher was steering around, not a date Sony was promoting from the stage. September 3 is a second Sony stage in the same year. Rockstar still has not borrowed it.
That is not a delay signal. It is how Rockstar has always shipped the big ones. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 did not debut inside someone else's E3 or State of Play block. Prediction videos in the 24 hours before the show keep recycling three GTA 6 ideas: a surprise Trailer 3, a PS5 Pro bundle, and some PlayStation-specific feature drop. None of those three is in Sony's briefing. Flag them as fan speculation dated September 3, 2026.
Trailer 3 is a Rockstar product. If it exists, it will almost certainly drop on Rockstar's own channels the way Trailer 1, Trailer 2, and the August Extended Look did. If a bundle card flashes for two seconds, that is news. Expecting it is not reporting.
